Proof Over Perception Built For More Randomized Control Trial

Every year, veterans are dying by suicide – not because we lack compassion, but because we lack proof. Proof that what we are doing actually works. Proof that the programs asking for veterans’ time and trust are earning it.  At Warriors & Quiet Waters, we have never settled for belief alone. Since 2021, we have partnered with the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University to rigorously measure our impact. The data is strong. But strong is not enough.

Testimonials inspire – but impact should be more than what people say.  It should be something we can see, measure, and build on.

That is why we are launching the Built for More Randomized Controlled Trial – a gold-standard study that will tell us, with scientific certainty, what is driving veteran transformation.

WHAT IS A RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL

A Randomized Controlled Trial – an RCT – is the gold standard in program evaluation. It is the same rigorous method used in medical and clinical research to determine whether something truly works, not just whether it feels like it does.

In plain terms:

In 2026, one cohort of veterans goes through Built for More. A second cohort waits and participates in 2027. We measure both groups at the same points in time. Because the groups are similar by design, any meaningful difference in outcomes points directly to the program.

Because participants are assigned by chance, the two groups are statistically similar. This allows researchers to isolate one key question.

Without an RCT, we can show correlation – that veterans who go through Built for More improve. With an RCT, we can show causation: the program itself is responsible for those improvements. That is a meaningfully different claim. And it is the one that matters most.

An RCT gives us the strongest empirical evidence that exists. Not the strongest evidence we have gathered so far. The strongest that science can produce.

WHY WARRIORS & QUIET WATERS IS DOING THIS

We have spent years building, testing, and refining Built for More. We collect long-term outcome data. We have seen strong, consistent signs of transformation in the lives of post-9/11 combat veterans.

The RCT is the next step in that process.

We are doing this for three reasons.

To Know With Certainty That Our Program Works

We owe it to veterans to ensure that the program we ask them to commit their time and trust to is truly effective.

An RCT provides the highest order of evidence. It tells us, with scientific rigor, that Built for More is producing real, durable outcomes. Not just meaningful experiences. Real change.

Are we empowering veterans to thrive in the ways we intend? That is the most important question we can ask.

To Improve the Program Over Time

This is not about proving perfection. It is about being honest enough to learn.

The data will show us:

  • What parts of Built for More create the strongest impact.

  • Where there may be opportunities to strengthen or refine the program.

  • How to make Built For More even more effective for future participants.

That is how we grow our impact – not just our reach.

To Earn the Trust of our Donors and Supporters

Our supporters invest in Warriors & Quiet Waters because they care about veterans and believe in responsible stewardship.

An RCT provides transparency and credibility. It ensures that donor support is tied to real outcomes and measurable change.

Testimonials move people. Data earns trust. An RCT lets us offer both – and gives our donors the confidence that their investment is producing exactly what we say it is.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE FUTURE

The results of this RCT will outlast all of us.

By documenting what works, we build something that endures. Future veterans – men and women we will never meet – will benefit from a program that is stronger because we were willing to measure it honestly.

This is about stewarding our mission and the trust placed in us by veterans and supporters alike.  This is about living up to our prime core value: Warriors First, Always.

A COMMITMENT TO INTEGRITY

Launching an RCT is not the easy path. It requires humility, outside evaluation, and a willingness to learn from the results, whatever they may show.

But that is who we are.

We believe veterans deserve programs that are not only well-intentioned but proven. We believe donors deserve confidence that their support creates real change. And we believe our mission is strong enough to be measured honestly.

This RCT is not a box we are checking. It is a promise – to every veteran on our waitlist, every donor who has believed in us, and every warrior who has trusted us with the hardest chapter of their life. We are doing the hard work of proof because thriving veterans make America stronger. And because they deserve nothing less.
